What Does Your Industry Look Like?
Branding 101: Lunch & Learn #2. A hands-on session to understand your creative landscape and carve out your own space.
Hello! Each month, long-term collaborator Amy I Beeson and I* will share our branding expertise with you on a monthly Branding 101 Lunch & Learn Zoom.
This is a series of live 1-hour tutorials for purpose-led practitioners and creatives who want to build a professional identity that they can be proud of and that evolves with them.
We're doing this because we're on a mission to help more diverse voices be heard and more meaningful work be seen; and a clear and consistently articulated positioning determines how well you're understood, trusted and able to reach the people your work is meant for.
One of our mottos is "show, don't tell." You can expect 'do-it-with-you' style sessions where you'll be shown how we blend storytelling with design and strategy - so you can present yourself and your work confidently.
We have lots to share, but we'll go through it all together at a gentle pace.
Reserve your spot for the next Branding 101 Lunch & Learn on Wednesday 24 June 2006, 1-2pm: What Does Your Industry Look Like?
What Does Your Industry Look Like?
A hands-on session to understand your creative landscape and carve out your own space.
In our second session, led by myself, we'll build a visual competitor analysis.
This is a digital collage of found imagery that helps you identify what colours, fonts, imagery and visual style your industry or niche is using. Very handy for seeing - using real-world 'data' - what your audience expects, what is a trend, what is being overused or missed out, and where there might be an opportunity to stand out.
We'll also take a look at colour and typography psychology and how you could apply this theory to your brand.
This is a practical, hands-on session so please come with a laptop / computer, smartphone (optional), a notebook & pen, and software which allows you to import / paste images into a document - such as Microsoft Word, or even Google Slides, PowerPoint, Figma or Miro.
If you have competitor notes from the first Branding 101 Lunch & Learn, we’ll build on them here. If you’d like to (re)watch the replay you can access the video on Amy's Substack (available early June 2026) to work through this bit of Brand Strategy.
It's an opportunity to get some professional brand design, language and communications strategy advice (bring your questions).
If you'd like some design support I also offer a Let's Get It Done Zoom Co-Working Call.
*Amy I Beeson and I have been collaborating for over 10 years under her boutique brand agency Wordsby Communications. Together, we've built brands and campaigns for the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), the PostGraduate Institute for Measurement Science (National Physical Laboratory), and International Cat Day (International Cat Care) to name a few.
Amy has also worked with household names like the Royal Navy, NHS, WWF, LSE, The National Archives, the Labour Party and O2. Her branding know-how was a huge factor in getting a three-book deal with HarperCollins, and she's recently put her comms skills to good use to create WRITE UP.
Divya specialises in working with international social and environmental-impact organisations including WWF International, the United Nations, the Commonwealth Foundation, as well as local charities and Climate Emergency Centres.
